Safety & Responsibility
Our Statement
At Avalanche Algarve, we prioritise the safety, comfort, and well-being of all riders using our rental bikes, guided tours, and support services. This Safety & Responsibility Statement outlines the responsibilities of both the rider and Avalanche Algarve to ensure a safe and enjoyable cycling experience across the Algarve region.
1. Rider Responsibility
By renting a bike or joining a guided tour, you agree to the following safety commitments:
- Helmet Use: Helmets are provided with every rental and must be worn at all times during riding, including short-distance travel.
- Follow Local Traffic Laws: Riders must comply with Portuguese road regulations, signage, and shared-path etiquette.
- Ride Within Your Ability: Riders are responsible for choosing routes and speeds that match their fitness level, skill, and comfort.
- Respect Nature & Environment: Stay on marked paths, avoid protected wildlife areas, and follow any instructions from guides or local authorities.
- Check Equipment Before Riding: Riders must visually inspect brakes, tyres, seat height, lights, and general condition before departure.
- Report Issues Immediately: Any mechanical concerns must be reported to Avalanche Algarve before continuing the ride.
- No Reckless Riding: Drifting, jumping, downhill racing, or stunt-style behaviour is strictly prohibited.
- Alcohol & Substances: Riding under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that affects judgement is not permitted.
2. Avalanche Algarve Responsibility
We commit to providing safe, fully inspected, and professionally maintained equipment:
- Professional Maintenance: All bikes are serviced by experienced mechanics with competitive riding backgrounds.
- Daily Pre-Ride Checks: Brakes, gears, tyre pressure, and overall bike condition are checked before each rental.
- Safety Accessories Included: Every rental includes a helmet and lock, with additional items available on request.
- Clear Route Guidance: We provide accurate information on difficulty, terrain, and route suitability.
- Support Availability: Assistance for mechanical issues is offered across operating areas during business hours.
3. Environmental & Weather Considerations
Riders acknowledge the natural risks associated with outdoor activities:
- Weather conditions may change quickly, especially along coastal and lagoon areas.
- Boardwalks, gravel sections, and coastal wind zones may affect bike handling.
- Sun exposure and heat are significant in summer—hydration and sun protection are essential.
Avalanche Algarve may modify or cancel guided tours if weather or trail conditions create safety risks. Alternative options or refunds may be offered depending on circumstances.
4. Health & Physical Condition
By renting or joining a tour, riders confirm that:
- They are in suitable physical condition for cycling activities.
- They have no medical conditions that would pose a danger while riding.
- Any health concerns must be communicated to Avalanche Algarve in advance.
5. Personal Property & Theft
Riders are responsible for securing the bike with the provided lock when unattended. Avalanche Algarve is not liable for theft, loss, or damage to personal belongings during rental or guided tours.
6. Assumption of Risk
Cycling, even on easy terrain, involves inherent risks including falls, collisions, mechanical failures, and environmental hazards. By renting or joining a tour, you acknowledge these risks and agree that Avalanche Algarve cannot be held liable for injuries resulting from normal cycling activity, rider behaviour, or non-compliance with safety instructions.
7. Emergency Situations
In case of accident or injury, riders must contact local emergency services (112) and inform Avalanche Algarve as soon as possible. Guided tour leaders are trained to assist with emergency procedures.
8. Acceptance of This Statement
By completing a rental or booking a guided tour, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the safety responsibilities outlined in this document.
